The battery in a trunk you can't open does require something like the ODB

The issue this can address is inability to access the battery in the trunk. I

True, but this is far more elegant of an approach, especially if you’re
changing a battery. You would be wrestling live battery cables around the
engine compartment while you’re trying to swap a battery.
