Ok,this morning as temps drop to freezing the drive into town with the teenager became interesting since on the left side of the wagon it vented fresh outside freezing air, on the right side, hotish air. Turning the dial on left to almost max made it a bit warmer, click to high and you get heat, lots of, way too much to live with, otherwise my left foot gets frostbite. This has to be resolved. John - Enjoyed your description - brought back many memories of when I used to do this stuff [and why I don't any more]. What is most amazing to me is the temperature control 'improvements' on these fancy electronic systems vs. my old Benz. My 1962 220S accomplished the same thing with four slide levers on the dash and no electronics. The only requirement back then was that the driver and passenger had to know how warm they wanted their legs / head to be, and move the lever the correct distance. Not as fancy as sensors and a dial, but hard to call what you had to go through an improvement over sliding a lever. Wonder if they will ever go back to simple but effective and darn near impossible to break.
