The sound of the old horizontal-opposed aircooled vw was a song with a message, just like the old folk tradition. I can't tell you how many times I have been stuck next to an old V-dub at the light and thought, what a jerk, he needs to gap his valves, tune his carb, do the 98 cent tune-up.
