A glob of silicone sealant wrecked the crank (and block eventually)
on my brother's 75 300D. It blocked the oil flow to the #2 crankpin,
which eventually scored the crank and caused it to break. I've also
seen a bit of paper towel ruin a large engine by blocking the flow of

There are several known points of failure on these guys.
First and foremost, a broken pressure relief valve spring will cause
a complete loss of oil pressure. So will a broken drive shaft inside
the pump (no rotation of the gears although the shaft turns).
You may also have a worn out oil
