a Mac SE.  With a, get this, 20 mb hard drive.  Cost
$5500, and if you wanted real speed and set up to the SE30, with a 40 mb
drive, it was a cool $7500!

My first computer, a PC with a 40MB HD  purchased in 1990 was $10K, but that 
included the nifty talking gadgetry (card, external speaker, software and 
configuration).  I don't think I've surpassed that $10K amount in all my 
computer purchases combined since then.  Currently, the speech 
synthesizer/screen reader is nothing more than software which can be 
installed into ANY computer within a few minutes!  It needs no card nor 
external speaker since it uses the computer's sound card.  We've come a long 
way indeed.

PS.  I didn't know that there were 8gb USB flash drives!  I think I have a 
2gb stick.
