So, what is up with this thing and can it be made to work right?
If there's nothing visibly wrong and the brushes are OK, then it's
likely you have a shorted winding, which saps the torque considerably.
Unless you can/will rewind the motor, either the armature (spinning)
or the field
The electric convertible top motor on my 76 Eldo quit working. A
replacement is like $250 -- crazy. I got it spinning, but it has no
torque and won't even turn the reduction gearbox that turns some
flexible shafts that go to the top lift mechanisms on either side, and I
can hold the shaft
