For what it’s worth, if anyone here buys OE parts online, be aware there are a
wide range of pricing schemes used which can have a significant effect on your
price. Without going into the weeds, some dealers discount from list prices,
some mark up from (their) cost, some base the discount or mar
Yes that is all correct. Never used this dealer but buy from Napier

You have to shop the dealers selling online, because they don’t all use the
same pricing model. That was my point - Covington does cost plus, others do it
from list price, etc., etc.
For instance, Naperville’s cost must be higher than Covington’s or they’re
taking a slightly higher markup on th
I have noticed the same thing. I was looking for a lower bumper grill
piece for the S550, pricing was all over the map with the different
vendors including MB dealers. Found one good price (and I think it was
that Weeziana dealer) but then shipping was about as much as the part so
that was st
Unfortunately, there’s some truth to that assumption. Some dealers, mostly on
retail parts, will mark up above list price. There’s nothing stopping them for
doing so, as they can pretty well set prices wherever they see fit.
I have seen it in person, where someone asked the price of a filter, an
I guess they can do whatever they want, it is a fairly restricted market
to end users anyway.
This grill thing is just a flat plastic piece maybe 3ft long if that, in
a box I'm sure it weighs about 1.5lb so nothing too huge, but they make
up the part price on the shipping fee so there's that.
I would question that. The cost for shipping on parts I’ve ordered have been
quite reasonable. It’s likely that the size of the box is what’s doing you in.
Carriers charge based on volume, not weight (as much), so the bigger something
is, the more it’s going to cost.
Case in point: I wanted to

I have been told (no firsthand experience) that Fastenal can be a good
alternative shipper for large items.

I would check ebay as well. Some items are free of shipping charges, along
with a discount to dealer prices. Worth a look. I usually search on part
numbers.

I ordered an extra Unimog dump frame. Didn't cost me anything in shipping,
as they threw it in the bed of the Unimog I was buying!

I've been buying more on eBay lately and less from Amazon. Lower prices for the
same stuff, often with free shipping.

Ever see a Chinese fender on RockAuto for $75, and then find out they
want $98 to Fedex (ground) it to you?
That's when I go to the body shop and let them look it up:
Generic $70, CAPA certified $80, I'll sell you a CAPA for $100.
Sold!

Yes, I usually shop between the 2 mentioned and when try yours. It also depends
on what the net is after shipping. Most times Naperville might be a little
higher but with free shipping it nets out less.

I looked up prices again on 3 dealer parts sites, they all came in
shipped at $120-$130 and amazon has one at about the same price with
tax, maybe a bit more. I sent a msg to my local stealer and got
something back from the sales saying I didn't specify what car I wanted

OK I got a call from Carlos at the local stealer, he tells me he can get
