I have an 82 300D with a thrown rod on #1 cylinder... hole in block big
enough to pass your hand through, just behind the alternator.
One owner car with 106,000 verified through service records miles. In this
case, It appears the oil pressure gage feed line leaked while the woman
driver never check
My brother's 300D did the same thing, just #2 rather than #5. Cracked
the block instead of poking a rod out, but it's been know to happen.

Was that piston seized? I'm wondering if the oil cooling jet plugged. Any
