Not much of a car work day.

Auction needed attending. I had looked at the catalog and there seemed to be
about a dozen things I might not be able to live without. So I went. Turned
out I could live without a bunch of it, and there was not a real killer bargain
going to be had on the stuff there. I was not impressed, so I lugged the
Makita Demo Hammer of Death machine I bid on back home and figured I could use
that to get the seat out.

Actually I busted that mystery around midnight and was waiting until sunlight
and dry weather to go after the offending screws. They are massive phillips
head screws that need a #4 bit to spin up, and impact drive to convince they
need to leave the premises. I have some impact things, so I tried using what
tools I had. Yeah, lame-o #2 or #3 bits are not going to do a darn thing.
Well, they will strip the head, so spent three hours hunting down which store
in Seattle would be most likely to have said #4 bit. Not FLAPS, or the local
hardware shoppe. Dumb idea to think that Homo despot or Lowe-ching will carry
an impact bit in #4, so go to Nappy and ... have you noticed that even they
have succumbed to stocking chinese crap? But not a #4 phillips head. Hipster
at the counter said I could see if sears had one.

Turns out they did. In a $25 hand impact set. I need the thing, I have wasted
at least that much fuel zipping around, and I needed to get the banana tree I
picked up at the despot home and potted. And it took three minutes once I had
lubed the rails and slid the seat forward to locate the offending screws and
smack the bejeezus out of them so that I could lift the seat out and hand truck
it into the garage. I will be giving it a good cleaning up and POR to delay
the incipient rust, while I tickle the rear foot well with my wire wheel and
splash POR to deal with the aftermath. May have to make more patches so that
any holes become not hole.

That will have to be all on my schedule until Saturday afternoon. Griots
Garage is hosting a how to use their products so that your car is pretty and
they get some more converts to donate to the cause. I am looking forward the
the cocoa and donuts. Might win a door prize.
