The caliper diameter has to suit the master cylinder and vacuum booster.
I have been running two different rear calipers on my wagon for 20 years
now. They recently got fried when the master cylinder failed, so we rebuilt
them. Unfortunately I failed to get the w126 master to suit my late w126

It's probably to handle the additional weight in the rear - more weight
means it needs more braking power. If you don't load up the rear, the sedan
calipers would most likely be fine, and better than no rear brakes!

I guess I could fly over to Sydney, spend 2 weeks in quarantine, visit the
outback, and then fly back with the caliper in my checked luggage.

I wonder how much difference it makes. W123 will not have any fancy ABS nannies
and most of the braking is done by the front wheels anyway.

I saw somewhere that he retired or left the CC or something.
Does the EPC cover older 123s? Go to that and look up the part number
for your wagon and for sedans and see if they are different.
In any case a caliper is about the easiest thing to swap out on a 123,
if you can't chase down an or
My only concern is that my indie tech (who has owned and repaired 123
diesels for decades) thinks that the RR caliper for the wagon differs from
that of the sedan. I will double check with Tom Hanson.

The prices at the link given earlier seem reasonable, to somebody who
paid $120 in 1988 dollars (mail order) for Girling front calipers for
Saab 99.
Somebody made some $$ on eBay:

No clue. They are exclusive to the wagon on the 123.

That's always the debate I have. FLAPS parts are cheap and have good
warranties, and I've never had much hassle exchanging parts, but it's a PITA to
install two or three until you finally get a good one. That happened to me with
a brake master cylinder.
I've had pretty good luck with parts at N

Apparently this part is not interchangeable with a 300D or 300CD. My indy
tech says to avoid Cardone and other brands of rebuilt calipers sold by
Autozone or Advanced Auto as they give trouble. Any suggestions?
