Yep. The spring perch is the upper spring seat, right above the control arm.
Now imagine a drive shaft going out to the hub, right through the middle of that
spring. Obviously, the spring has to go elsewhere.

My understanding is that the spot welds that hold the perch to the chassis rust
and fail leading to potentially catastrophic results which could lead to a
fatal accident. I'm not aware of anyone getting killed from this though.
The W210 chassis is very rust prone in general. I have seen many very
Burr under saddle blanketor is it rust on the perch???
