the workshop/industrial guns (the ones the size of a soldering gun) is far
superior to the stuff in the small, hobbies and crafts hot glue guns.

hot glue once - lasted many years. With any of these repairs, clean
and dry are the watch words. Maybe even some sanding around the crack.
