I picked up a stunning Danish mid century rosewood coffee table for a good price but the top is marred in places with a cloudy discoloration, probably a result of setting down wet objects on the surface (which has a dark varnished finish). Murphy's oil soap and cleaner didn't do anything for these

You need to find out what the finish is first. If it's truly varnish, there are any number of ways to get the milky discoloration out. For the bottom the Magic Eraser stuff works well on things like this, and if that doesn't remove it, try WD-40 on a cloth (don't spray it directly on the wood!
