and it worked great, all the benefits of a ratchet where the ratchet
wouldn't fit.

Pretty difficult. I
In a non-turbo 300CD, pretty easy - just turn the wheels all the way to the
left before you unbolt the starter, so that it has room to fall out.
Warning - they're freaking heavy, so don't drop it on anything vital.
