I think the ceramic pads come already "set" by a baking process, read that over
the weekend on one of the makers websites. Not sure if Akebono are same, I
don't remember any special process when I installed them a few years ago.
Just paid $45, I think OE from MB run about $70 or more.

Ceramic pads made by whom?
I put Akebono on the Ranger and they've been great. The Ranger rear
brakes SUCK, when they're wet they're very grabby so its nice to
have very good fronts...
Rusty sold me some other brand (Wagner maybe?) for the fronts on my

I have had ATE ceramics on my TE for a few months now and no dramas,
except for a bit of squeal when reversing down the drive.
Also getting a bit of slow braking ABS pulsing but not sure if the pads
are to blame for that.
It's getting close to needing to do a few jobs on the S124, so will
invest
Put decent pads on there, usually fixes weird stuff.
Also make sure the axle seals are good -- differential lube on the
brake pads does all sorts of nasty things. So does leaking brake fluid.

You might get lucky - but the only way to be sure to avoid problems
is to bed the pads.
