Do you think there is any chance that the engine is sucking oil or trans
fluid etc in somehow and running without the normal fuel feed and
parking it nose up removes the source of fuel? Sort of a run away diesel
but at idle speed?

shutoff under the hood would stop the engine. They discovered that if
they parked it on an incline with the nose up, it would stop.
