GM used coil springs from about 62 to 72 at least, my brother's 3/4 ton had them, along with diagonal trailing arms. Fully independent front end, at least on the two wheel drive models. They used leafs because they are 1: cheap and 2: serve as trailing arms, so you need only three mount po
