We have a similar system here in Adelaide but work on an alternate week
system, whereby one week it's recycling and the next week it is green waste.
This works pretty well but the recycling bin is pretty full after 2 weeks.
When they introduced this scheme they made us use the wheelie bin that

green waste AKA yard debris. Glass jars/bottles go into a smaller bin that
can be put out every week.
