I've figured out my why don't I get cold air? question - it's not because
the actuator wasn't hooked up (it was), but because I'm losing all my nice
cold air out the sides of the airbox! (Which also explains why I don't get
as much hot air as I thought I should.)

You will need to replace the switch -- the thermal sensor bulb is
attached to the evaporator and controls the interior temperature by
switching the compressor on and off. As it is, the compressor will
run constantly and you will freeze. Literally.
