Where, specifically, would one look for rust on this one?

I think the usual places -- around the windshield/rear window seals, rocker
areas, lower fenders, floors is where it normally starts. Anywhere that
water/salt can sit or collect.

Seems like Spring Perch season doesn't get much attention like it did

Not sure about the spring perch, but it’s something I’d certainly check anyway

Yes it is a concern but as far as I know it can't really be checked visually.
You need to remove the sealant/rubber mastic around the perch area to see if
it's rusted underneath. Of course any visible rust on the inner fender in that
area or peeling sealant is a warning sign.
