Correct.
It used to be that excise tax would plateau at something like 12 years to a
relatively small amount, like $25. That said, buy a new car and the excise tax
was $1,000s of dollars. Ouch!
However, I believe it’s far less onerous than it used to be. I think that after

Indiana will compute sales tax based on the bill of sale or whatever selling
price is written on the title.
Annual registration fees include excise tax based on current book value, no
appeals that I know of but it drops every year until it reaches some minimum.

I lost two registration stickers for the AZ ML350. They come to the FL house
because the FL address is where we’re domiciled. The first one came, I mailed
it to the youngest son in AZ, but he misplaced it before he could put it on the
car. No biggie. I go online and buy a replacement for $5. USP
