Hi All: Here's another approach (see below two messages) to an eBay
"meteor-wrong" solution. It's based on my distinct recollection that
last year someone posted a comment on the List to the effect that
fishing lure collectors had confronted eBay on the problem of fake lures
and had somehow won (b
Did Walter ever explain why Ebay terminated his auctions?

If anyone's interested, I've posted a few shots I took of the occultation
early (!!) on the morning of the 28th, from just north of Dallas, Texas.
Follow the URL below.
First contact occurred at approximately 02:48:30, local time, and it was all
over in less than 30 seconds. An hour worth of
Hahhahhahahaha$15,000 for a probably Nantan of
13 kg. I find this, if is Nantan, for max.
$1,000, no over.

Oh my gosh! A NANTAN meteorite!!! Wow, you can get this for only $1 a
gram, that's not bad because some meteorites on eBay go for $500g. Man, I
should jump on this right away. Then again, it probally wouldn't hold me
because it looks like its already rusting.
Like we've never seen one of these
Sometimes I don't know which is worst: meteor-wrongs or over exaggerated
meteorites. Either way it is still a misrepresentation!
If nothing else this is good for a chuckle:(" yes you read it correct")

Michael and All,
I FULLY AGREE. Stop bugging them! Stop complaining!
Stop worrying about it. Leave Ebay alone.

Hi Walter,
No, of course you didn't say we should "rattle eBay's cage". You did
indeed say just the opposite. I was basically agreeing with you and
Michael and should have said as much in my reply.
Best wishes,

Dean, I am taking your point. Just let us all mail to the seller that he
is offering a fake for sale. That may do him/her to withdraw, and
let's alert the list.
I think all serious collectors are attached to the list anyway, active or
just monitoring.

Hi Walter, Chris, and Michael,
Let's not ruin a good thing by rattling eBay's cage where meteorwrongs
are concerned. Consider this: of close to 350 new listings during last
week's free listing day, I counted 4 meteorwrongs. How many experienced
collectors would have been tempted by any of thes

Yes, remember that. Ebay took 4 days to respond when I asked ebays
powerseller service. And revenue from meteorite auctions is not high enough

Hi Walter, Chris & all,
Not that you two are the problem - but since this issue is AGAIN
being
discussed, I would like to STRONGLY suggest no one on this list EVER
complain
to eBay again about false meteorite claims on eBay.
Deal with it however else you/we all decide to do so, bu
Speak of the Devil,
ebay just terminated all my auctions for violating two of their policies.
Hold on and I will tell you why and propose a possible small "work around"
for one violation.

I agree with Walter.
It is not anyone's responsibility to police the meteorites on Ebay. If
well-meaning Ebayers continue to complain to the folks at Ebay about
"meteorwrongs" they might decide they aren't worth the hassle and ban all
of them from Ebay. It really is one person's opinion ag

some of us say it isn't is no legal reason for ebay to pull
Christopher,
Ebay takes a little different view of meteorites. They are an item that is
open to some speculation. It is difficult to contradict a seller who is
representing something as a meteorite. I have and many others on this list
have on countless occasions brought obvious "meteorwrongs" to t

Hi John and All,
I like the idea of a composite chondrite. The name seems to reflect more of
what is really in the specimen rather than what makes up the largest
I am new to this list and much more experienced at collecting manned space
memorabilia than meteorites although, I find meteorites more interesting. I
think it is very important that a qualified meteorite dealer or collector
take it upon themselves to police Ebay for false or misleading claims

Whenever I see one of these rarities up for bid on ebay, I always go to
the "who's bidding" page. If no one I recognize from our List is on the
bidding list, and a bunch of unknowns, or people with 0 feedback are, I
say "hm..." and pass. Of course, there's always the chance someone

But should we blame Ebay? The alternative is that Ebay reject all meteorite
auctions, because they are not going to staff a specialist for meteorites
just to keep unscrupulous sellers away. We have a list like this and maybe
