Hi Listees!
I want to thank everyone who replied to my request for information
about my new lapidary saw and how to use it. I received many helpful
replies offlist and I think these emails probably saved me much trial
and error - not to mention a few blades and fingers. Since my main
interest is

Hey Ed,
The usefulness as fuel depends on the concentration of water.
Rubbing Alcohol is 70% Isopropyl 30% water. The "fuel line antifreeze"(Heet TM
etc)is 99%. If you are using it in an alcohol stove you need the Heet vs

Not much choice: either cut in oil or water or alcohol
Great video, Ruben - thanks for sharing this!
Then again: what makes you so sure these are "CK4"s, a rather specific
classification of carbonaceous chondrites, just from simple eye and magnet
inspection in the field? I pretty much assume this must have to do with Rob´s

Hi Ed,
The case we are discussing is the suspected and curious Nickel and Gold

UCLA's Cosmochemist Frank T. Kyte.

Special thanks to Rob Matson for being part of this meteorite hunt/video and
also helping to confirm our finds.
Thanks also to Mike Morgan for discovering that "Ace Meteorite Hunter" Rob

Hi Don,
It was part of my site but I took the site down about three or four years

I too have bought saws, blades and accessories from Kingsely North. Good
company. I bought a nice trim saw from them. My first attempts at cutting

Even if it a meteorite, what evidence other than coincidence links it
to Chicxulub impactor? During the weeks, month, and even decades
when the KT boundary layer was deposited an untold number of other
meteorites must have fallen into the sea to be incorporated into the
sediment layer.

The issue with the Kyte object is that no primary meteoritic minerals or
textures survive. There is just chemical evidence. I know that Frank is
sure that this was once a meteorite, but the lack of anything primary
means that it will be a very difficult sell to the NomCom as a fossil
meteorite.
Hi Sterling -
Do you think that we'll ever see Smit's refutation of Keller get any media
play? Sadly, my guess is "no".
I wonder if Baptistina family itself was not formed when a comet hit an
asteroid.

Thanks for the interesting post on this curious case.

Hi List,
I would like to trade the 209g Main Mass of my new NWA 5729 L3.5 S1 W2, for
a nice Allende with fresh crust (so collected not too long after the fall).
The Allende should preferably be an end-cut or half stone. Relatively large
cut surface area would be a plus.

Hi Don,
You have a nice trim saw. I had responded directly to Mike about his, but
I missed seeing that link to a picture of his saw. Actually, that is not a
tile saw like you see at Harbor Freight or Home Depot, although it could be
used as one. It is a lapidary trim saw. The saw table should
Hi Mike. I know Walter Branch made a very nice step by step guide on cutting
meteorites, but not sure where I still have this site address or even if the
page is still up. As far as the saw you bought, (I'm no expert) it looks
like a tile saw of a sort. With this you need to use a water hose to

involved. Apparently no one saw it fall, since it was just after it had
rained.
