Dear List,
Xinjiang Major Meteorite Impact Event 31JUL2013???
-Reports of a 3m x 2m crater - photos appears to be of something else in a junk
yard
- reports of 1200 human injuries
- report of 100,000 houses damaged
Story very exaggerated. News in China and especially in Xinjiang takes time to

It is now confirmed that the Chinese news source that reported the damage and

Hi Listees
Here is the vote of the Scottish jury - not real. If a meteorite was reported
to have fallen on the 31st July/1st August then the crater on the TV report
is not related to any fall. It looks like a hole that was dug several weeks ago
and left. The rocks, soil and the litter are just
Dr. Davidson,
Thank you for your kind reply to the list concerning this event.
My personal take is that the photo of the meteorite is real although it is
unknown whether it is related to this reported event or not;. or perhaps
something in the trash dump exploded? The crater photo reminds me
Nothing at all looks real about it.
To make an2 meter crater it would need to be huge. No sign of anything, no
fireball reports or sonic boom reports.

I would have to agree on that with you, fake as day. The dirt has to much dust
and the last time I check, meteorites falls don't create trash. Or maybe its a
trashy meteorite lol.

Hey Greg,
I actually saw this the other day after running across this episode while
searching for upcoming shows using the key word meteorite. Pretty lame show
as you would already suspect.
The greedy researcher says that the EXACT SHAPE of the meteorite can be studied

Yep, I saw the episode and had to laugh. A mere 40 million dollars and the feds
went after it. It looks like the producer has been watching too much cable
television about meteoritic treasure hunts! It won't be long before meteorites
are confiscated even though found on private property at the
That's one dirty looking crater IMHO. I call hoax or
misunderstanding.
