Could it be a small part of the Sky-Crane blasted of by the pyrotechnic
devices used in the landing?

I wonder if anyone knows of work done on modeling the effects of a
meteoritic impact over a previous crater.
I suppose such work could shed some light on the features we see in
images from the Moon and Vesta, for instance.

In line with the unseriousness of the experiment, perhaps you could toss
a flashlight (on!) along with the meteorite, so you could prove that
meteorites fall at the (same) speed of (the) light. :)
