About 2 years ago I read in Meteorite Magazine that Chassigny traded for
$175,000.00 per gram, either at Tucson or Ensisheim, not sure which. The price
was based on a purchase of a very small amount, weight wise.
As for the most valuable material Tom, I have some micro crystals that I sell
Sterling asked:
The interesting question is: how much longer will a general decline
in meteorite prices continue? Is it a lull? A temporary dip? A
re-adjustment? A momentary oversupply? A slide? Was there a "bubble"? Is
this "normal"?

Tom,
The most expensive meteorite that I can think of is NWA482, which usually
fetches between $4000 and $5000/gm...I believe this could be one of the
most, if not the most expensive natural materials here on earth.

Hello Ron,
Is aerogel the material that coats space shuttles? It can withstand great
temperatures however, a piece the size of a couch weighs less than a loaf of
bread.
You're thinking of the heat tiles on the belly of Space shuttle, but that isn't
aerogel.
Aerogel is a good insulator,
I have not read all the posts, but I think that
Laffayete is probably the most expensive, somewhere at
or above $20,000 per/gram
I have .87 gram sample

Then there is Jim Strope's NWA998... this is about
$11,000 or more per/gram.
Chassigny
I've heard Chassigny at one time was selling for $100,000 per gram.

Hello Ron, I did some reading yesterday on aerogel and found an article
about someone doing an artic expedition and buying a areogel blanket. They
said it was rather expensive, $45 a square foot. But I could not find a
weight per size figure. It would take a lot of square feet to make up the

A correction
Jim Strope's NWA998 sample that I was referring to was
1.4 grams at $11,000, not one gram at that price.

P.S. This is an exceptional meteorite, and absolutely
fantistic in thin section.

Ron Farrel at Bethany Sciences..
Maybe.
Probalby still has that price.
I think that Eudardo at meteorites.com has it for
somewhere at $12,000 per/gram.

Hi,
While there are short term fluctuations from availability and medium
term fluctuations from how rare a type is (like lunars), there is
clearly a moderately long term trend over the last three to five years
of declining meteorite prices.
I have noticed this because, mostly by accident,
Hello List, I was wondering if anybody can answer these two questions for

any other material that is worth that much per gram besides other
meteorites?
Thanks, Tom
