I have a problem and I'm hoping someone out
there will be able to help me out. I recently purchased some material
which was described as "Canyon Diablo Meteorites". Well, it
turns out that I got a nice big baggie full of shale that came in a box with no
return address. Grrr
What you might want to do is find one of the many references that explains
how to tell a meteorite from a meteorwrong, go down the list, and check
off all that apply (i.e., meteorites are magnetic to varying degrees.
Shale is not.) Submit the list to the insurance company. You might also

The material you bought could be oxidized Canyon Diablo material collected
on the surface just outside the canyon rim. H. H. Nininger used some of
this in some copies of his little booklet, A Comet Strikes The Earth.
