A 414-gram meteorite discovered on Feb. 4 in Hiroshima is thought
to have been adrift in space for about 90 million years before
striking Earth, the National Science Museum revealed.

The meteorite is believed to be one of the oldest to have struck
the Earth in terms of the length of time it spent in space.

The meteorite, which measures 5.8 centimeters by 10.5 centimeters
by 4.6 centimeters, was found on the floor of a warehouse in the
city after it tore through the warehouse's steel-sheet roof.

The meteorite, an aerolite made up mainly of silicate minerals
and about 30 percent iron ore, burned when it plunged into the
atmosphere. It was the 49th meteorite found to have struck
Japan.
