I've been wanting to add Santa Catharina (ungrouped ataxite from
Brazil) to my collection, but all I've ever seen are shale pieces.
Are there any solid pieces in collections?
And more to the point are there any available in the marketplace?
Thanks
Mike Fowler
Hi all
Can anyone explain me why shale from Santa Catharina have that many colors ?
Becouse this was ataxite so there was no inclusions. I think that different
colors represent places that contain different ammount of nickel (25-50%).
Thats correct ?
Here is example of Santa slice.

Hello Marcin and List,
I think oxidation and alteration are the key words here:
Both Wolf Creek and Santa Catharina are extremely weathered

Hello Bernd, List,
Regarding the 28 kg of Santa Catharina from Antwerp university, yes, I well
know the team in Antwerp who rediscovered this old piece of iron that
later proved to be Santa Catharina.
One of the co-authors (Rik Dillen), relatively close friend, provided me in
due time (1992)

Hi Marcin and List,
Im looking for photos of the iron part from Santa
Catharina Ataxite. Someone have specimen or photo?
There are three photos you might want to look at:
a) Cover photo: Meteorite Magazine, Feb 2000, Vol 6, No. 1.
It's bw but fairly large and therefore shows some details.
See also cover photo of Joel's Meteorite
Magazine, February 2000, Volume 6, No. 1.
Regards,
Bernd
