Ok so /someone/ mixed up some of the cables on a new install using a
RB750. Before driving and climbing (gotta walk about a mile to reach
the site)
is there any reason not to just swap the ether-gateway and
ether-master roles on the switch? I know some are hard wired to work

I think ether1 cannot be used in 'slave' mode but other than
that...

Only reason I can think of is that ether1 isn't on the switch1 chip, and
2-5 are. If that doesn't matter (say, because you're bridging) then you

go swap the cables then as I am going to route between

If you're willing to bridge rather than switching, you could avoid the
cable swap. This will use more CPU, of course, so it depends on the site

People are on the way to fix it. It was configured on the bench and
should have been installed as such but one of the people on site
mis-labeled the west side cables (1 2) and thus we end up here. The
site is not live but will be shortly, so its better to just go back
and fix it now. This site
