It looks like you're missing the "make" tool on the host. It's not a tool specific to cross-compilation. You'll want to at least install the "build-essentials" package from Debian. As for openssl in particular, the list of things to change is long... http://cgit.notk.org/adrien/yypkg/slackware64-c

So I have installed mingw-w64 components targetting only w64 architecture on Debian 7. After installation, I couldn't locate x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc. Or could it be called by another name? Thanks in advance for your help. Ralph --

Hi Pavel I followed your advice and used Synaptic Package Manager to search for and install mingw-w64 targetting the w64 platform. I de-selected those components such as i686 architecture and gnu fortran, gnu ada and gnu objective-c++. The following packages were installed on Debian 7: gcc-min
