How do you deal with many disks?

I make extensive use of softraid crypto on two internal and a bunch of external disks. This results in up to 32 sd(4) devices attaching to my machine. However, by default MAKEDEV only creates 10 sd device nodes in /dev. How do people deal with this? For now, I've got the following in /etc/rc.lo
