xset dpms force off
this doesnt:
xset +dpms
xset dpms 0 0 300
anybody has an idea how can i make
the screen blanking work?

Yes. MPlayer disables screen blanking. When you watch a movie,
you usually don't press keys or move the mouse, but you still don't
want your screen to switch off.
