Mayoral candidates to speak at
meeting*markofgrace*<http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=pluckpersona&U=8f0085eb08b74c6d90a3c0463664ccb3>wrote:After
the last 12 years of the Carlson regime taxpayers have to ask what was the
motivation behind a number of downtown capital improvements that were so
highly criticized by the state audit released 12/18/07:
http://auditor.mo.gov/press/2007-74.pdf " A significant amount of city
funds has been used toward developing the downtown area. The city pledged
$1.5 million in public funds to assist a developer in obtaining private
financing to purchase the Heer's Tower. The city should refrain from pledging
city funds as collateral for private developers. Additionally, adequate
documentation, such as bids or proposals, should have been obtained for
amounts paid to the developer for demolition and design services". The NL &
Business Journal have posted numerous articles from 1997-2009 publicizing
Mayor Carlson & several Council members have vested interest in the downtown
area.

As I look at the potential candidates, on one hand I see a business man in
the trucking industry well versed in city politics; who recently stated he
is well accustom in visiting the state capital on behalf of the industry his
bread is buttered with.Which prompts vigorously the question how strongly
will his passion for his business that has relied on tax dollars influence
his political decisions as Mayor?

On the other hand ,I see a candidate perhaps inexperienced in politics, yet
with an incredible insight to the enormous issues facing Springfield, and
very much in touch with the people of the community; with no one industry of
preference to influence his political decisions as mayor. I strongly believe
the taxpayer's sentiment is we've had enough of the good ole' boy
establishment.We want change!
