I compiled the HSS1394 library on OS X a while ago, just forgot to
document it for you, sorry!
I had to add this to Mixxx's SConscript under the hss1394 block:
env.Append(LINKFLAGS = '-framework IOKit')
Then I had to put the following files in /usr/local/include/hss1394/ :
