Yes, I've tried them, none made a difference. In fact when I logged off
(restarting X-server) the machine crashed. The nvidia driver may not be
very stable on my machine.

Other, related: I installed CentOS-6 (latest available RedHat distro for
a 32-bit machine). It does have the nvidia equivalent nouveau driver,
correct screen resolutions, and has not crashed yet. This is somewhat an
updated version of my old Fedora-3 system that I heavily customized.
xawtv works well if I boot to that system. So I tried tocompile xawtv on
the CentOS, but make ended up in error. See below some relevant info:

xawtv-3.95

./configure --enable-alsa --enable-gl --with-x

configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: creating xawtv.spec
config.status: creating config.h

console/fbtools.c:24:22: error: asm/page.h: No such file or directory
console/fbtools.c: In function ‘fb_init’:
console/fbtools.c:427: error: ‘PAGE_MASK’ undeclared (first use in this
function)
console/fbtools.c:427: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported
only once
console/fbtools.c:427: error: for each function it appears in.)
make: *** [console/fbtools.o] Error 1

Thanks, and
