I've contacted the author Adrian Dempwolff, he agreed that a filter to reduce
redundant points is a good idea but has no time right now
to implement it.

I also did not find any option for phyghtmap which would control this. I also
looked at the source and found no algorithm to simplify the generated ways.
I think I'll contact the author.
