Have you checked that you're giving the Swiss tiles different mapIDs
from the US tiles?
It would help us if you shared with us your compile process (e.g. mkgmap
options)

Updated script. Now changes the file contents too.
This did not have any effect; in fact, it made things even worse. Whole
Switzerland was a big hole. I had to go outside just for making sure that
the street was still there.

As said, with all maps from CloudMade it is working now. Only with the
Geofab Switzerland map it did not work.
