mod_proxy heavy server problems

f the dorked process increases as the load on the server increases. I have MaxRequestsPerChild =100 in an attempt to kill the process before it gets dorked but the # of requests it takes to get the process in that state varies. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gerry Loon begin:v
