Public and private keys

I've renewed a cert. with Thawte. I'm running mod_ssl with open_ssl. I copy the renewed certificate to the public file and ssl does not start. I ran a mod5 compare and the public and private keys don't match. What can I do? Did Thawte screww up or am I missing something? Thanks Marcello Ge
