Answering my own post, the line "RequestHeader unset Authorisation"
in Apache 2.0.36 config fixes this issue. I've also been sent a dirty hack of mod_proxy from someone else to do the same. Perhaps putting the line "a little off topic" in my post stopped everyone reading it!
