The best picture category is in fact open to films from around the world as long as they play for a week in LA. In my opinion this opens up the category to much better films that tend to fall through the cracks. For instance the best picture nominees from 2008 probably would have included

I'm thinking REALLY REALLY hard here, and trying to think of 10 movies worthy of Best Picture nomination... unless they open Best Picture up to world wide. But Joe is right. The "Oscars" are clearly now more about a TV show and ad revenue than anything AMPAS might have thought of. Just one more
