I have an odd size 48 by 72 Cinerama roadshow poster of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad,
Mad World. Maybe from the UK as it's 72 wide and 48 high. But, it had some
tears and piece missing from the bottom left corner. I don't know what the cost
would be to restore and linen back it. I might not get back
I am currently auctioning three-sheets and six-sheets so of course they are
on my mind!
Here are my questions:
1) I see a fair number of the three-sheets and six-sheets where they are
currently below the price of the corresponding one-sheet! Is that often the
case, and if so, why do you think
Bruce -
Obviously you raise some interesting points. I think the answers to these
questions are tied together.
More people collect one sheets than larger size posters. Which, I guess,
reflects the price difference. The general public are not hard core collectors
who want larger size posters.
The simple answer is yesI will go look at your auctions now :-)
But also yes...just too damn biga one sheet takes less room...even
when it's stored in a cabinet...it's still easier to show friends a one
sheet when it's folded up then to try and find the time and the room to
show
I think a number of poster collectors have dreams of having a giant 3sheet or
6sheet hanging in their office or family room etc. I would love to have a 6
sheet mad mad world framed in my office (i.e. one whole wall). The cost of
linenbacking and framing a large format poster is daunting. I
Is that often the case?
Really? That's your question? After 20+ years in the business you decide
today that you have no idea if 3-sheets and 6-sheets often sell for above or
below the one-sheets?
That is kind of interesting though, because as I was looking through some of
the pressbooks
From the perspective of someone who likes it on the wall:
Yes, the linen backing, the framing, if it merits protection then UV
is a nightmare at that size.
I love 6 shts, but only have one, and I'll most likely leave it at that.
For a 6 sht to be justified, taking up that much wall space, I
i did look at bruce's 3sheets last night, and some pieces of good titles are
ridiculously low.? but..many wait to place their bids on the day of sale.
thoughts---
1.? i just removed a 3sheet from my wall, and was able to place 6 inserts in
that space.? i hate not displaying beautiful
I sometimes really miss the days when people (collectors) used to just
staple gun or thumb tack a three sheet or six sheet to the wall, and then
carefully remove the staples after they got tired of it (some great and big
posters are exhausting on the eye after a while) and replaced it in the
I have more thoughts on the many fine responses this thread received, but
because I fear being castigated by Sean a second time, I will reserve my
next post until after the 606 three-sheets, six-sheets (and Argentineans)
close tonight (and that start closing in just 90 minutes at
since when do you get intimidated?

Perhaps, some people prefer to buy only restored 3sheets.?
