Howdy all,
Just wanted to let people know that I think there is a very real possibility
that the ultra-wicked Japanese B0 (40"x56") Apocalypse Now
helicopters/surfing style is now hitting the market in reprint form. I had
recently made arrangements with a seller on eBay to buy one, since the
auction ended (#330166472610 - Apocalypse Now poster. Japanese original
39x58. RARE!). The seller has since sold one for the shabby price of just
under $500. I was quoted $700.
Then, on (what I thought was) a completely different angle, I had won an
auction with another seller for a Blade Runner Japanese B1 (160148947359),
which mysteriously disappeared in the mail. I looked at his last few
auctions, and he has sold two in the last month.
This poster is too rare and too cool to have at least three (possibly four
depending on what my mystery guy says in response to an email just sent
asking him if the $700 copy is still available), of these selling on eBay in
the last month for under anything resembling its $1200 market value, and
that's on the cheap end.
If these were cheap enough, I'd buy one and thoroughly document the sucker
and evaluate its authenticity, but I'm not dropping $500+ for the benefit of
the collecting community. Sorry. This isn't a $50 Pulp Fiction advance
reprint for God's sake.
Anyway, wanted to let people know. If you got one recently, you might
really want to look at the Eirin mark, if it's at all blurry, start
worrying.
