I can't remember how the Eugene Hughes story played out, but did those of you who lost significant sums and/or posters ever consider pooling your resources to hire a private investigator to track him down?

it depends on what you think the results would be.

If everyone gets together, and throws some money at the issue, and by luck he is found.... do you think anyone would get anything back??

Most certainly he has sold anything he was consigned for work by now, and as well would law enforcement see a worthy result to bother charging him with a crime. Also, presuming Texas would want to go after him - would whatever state he was in feel a need to transfer him to Texas custody??

the reality is that the only remedy at this point (he may have the benefit of a lapsed time frame for criminal prosecution) is in a civil arena. You can sue him, but therein lay the rub....

Let's say his total theft, from all collectors/sellers is $50,000. Well first of all I think you would have to certify the situation as "class action".. not likely with the amount of money he can be accused of. Secondly, you would have to find an attorney who would handle something for what would result in a small fee for the attorney - therefore negating his interest in the case. It would also result in costs to the folks who have already lost posters with a potential for no win.

the reality is that this is a prime example of "forget it & shine it on"

Eugene will never work in this hobby again, though he might find a job working for someone else who is not familiar with his reputation, and that my friend.. is as much justice as anyone here is likely to find
