I forgot to mention Carol Tincup, who has worked on a couple of posters for
me recently and the results were extraordinary. Actually, her work was so
incredible--on second thought, I'd like to say that her talent at
restoration equals if not surpasses the talent of Joe Hernandez. I

Yes Bruce, a great fixer-upper. Hell, a knockout fixer-upper. But I have
to say that virtually all the restoration artists working today exceed the
talents of Igor Edelman. Possibly this is a case of better tools
available from which to work. I am speaking of methods, paints, and yes
I know for a fact that Igor Edelman, who was a nice man and a talented artist,
also used acrylics on some posters, a total no-no.

There is one restorer currently working, who does the same!
I only learned this after the fact. She denied that her restorer used
acrylics but, in fact, it was/is.

Hey, my experience with Igor often was that years following his
restoration I'd look at the poster he'd restored and I could see the

where he'd done in-painting. I don't know if his techniques improved in
later years. All in all, I'd say the infamous Joe Hernandez was the

today's restorations will look in 10 years.
My point was that for this exact poster I don't think there is a poster

The thing is.. no matter how good the restorer, if he or she just
fabricates or makes up what was missing, and in-paints the sections
of what he/she *thinks* was there, without a reference, this poster
will be made worthless, in many regards. It would need to be
