If it helps, below is my response to Alan after he sent me these images from his eBay auction. I have the same poster and I inquired about his auction to see if I could possibly authenticate mine. Alan's is only the second rolled NSS version (with block letters) that I've seen come up for auction in the last few years. Other than that, the only other one I know of is from a past sale on Dave's site... although I'm not sure if it has the same fuzzy fine print text block as ours. As Alan said, any help would be appreciated... Thanks!
ORIGINAL MESSAGE TO ALAN: I actually have, what I believe to be, the same poster. There were two versions of this poster, both with NSS numbering in the lower right... but only one has 'BLADE RUNNER' in block letters (also in the lower right). Back to the Future, Empire Strikes Back, and a few others were printed with 2 versions like this... Generally with the block letter version being known as the NSS version and the other as a 'studio' version. As you might imagine, the studio versions commonly show up rolled, however rolled copies of the NSS version are like hens teeth. They do exist, though... Anyway, I got mine a while back from an eBay seller with good feedback, inventory and past sales that didn't arose suspicion, and with the correct measurements. I didn't notice the splotchy NSS paragraph until much later though so I couldn't return it. And I wasn't sure I would anyway as the only reprint I've seen of the NSS version is undersized (In fact Dave at Cinemasterpieces has the under-sized repro listed on ebay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem <http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180647395696&ssPageName= STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_6304wt_905> &item=180647395696&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_6304wt_905). I was really hoping you would be confident as to the provenance of your poster and that mine would either match it, authenticating mine, or not and I might bid on your legit copy. Unfortunately it sounds like we are both stuck! The only person I know that has sold a rolled NSS version is Dave (the previous sale listed on his site as being 'straight from a Continental Litho employee' http://www.cinemasterpieces.com/pka5.jpg). The provenance sounds impeccable, however, unfortunately the image on his site isn't good enough to see if the fine print paragraph is also splotchy. He might know if asked though. Then again, we don't really need a rolled copy to authenticate it... Just a folded NSS version with impeccable provenance. Unfortunately I only know of fellow collectors with studio versions. -----Original Message----- From: MoPo List [mailto:mopo-l@LISTSERV.AMERICAN.EDU] On Behalf Of Alan Adler Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2011 9:33 PM To: MoPo-L@LISTSERV.AMERICAN.EDU Subject: [MOPO] HELP WANTED: Blade Runner 1S - Fake or Find? Calling All Blade Runner Experts: I have a Blade Runner 1S - (Can send pix) It is exactly 27 x 41. It is rolled. It has the title BLADE RUNNER to the left of the NSS number at bottom right. My concern is that it has a splotchy NSS paragraph and Printed In USA line - Can not remember where I got it. (That bugs me more than whether it is real or not!) My question is can this be authentic with splotchy NSS? (Happy to send pix on request) - Thanks in advance for your time.
