As we look deeper into our curriculum, we realize that we are not
explicitly teaching non fiction text structure, especially compare/
contrast, cause effect etc. Research states that if students can
identify text structure, they are better able to comprehend the text.

We do have that in the elementary buildings, so I need a different
collection.

I think Jerry Spinelli's Milkweed is a great novel for Holocaust-themed
study/ WWII. It's a layered book that is a bit of a departure from Spinelli's
usual fare---and that can lead to great discussions about how and why his style
is different in this book.

I value the opinions on this site. What leveled readers do you recommend for
2nd graders. My class is majority ELLs and readers from high to low. I just
received a grant and want to make the best use of the funds. Any ideas.
