I am in a new school that does not have everyone teaching reading in the same way.  The curriculum coordinator is looking at bringing in a reading scheme to ensure that instruction is more consistent across grade levels.  We have classroom libraries but there is concern that implicit teaching of

Thanks for reminding me about the SWBST. I have used this but not lately. It is so effective. A good summarizing book is Summarizing in Any Subject by Rick Wormeli. Lots of different ideas for different text formats. It's better for upper ele. and middle school but ideas could be adapted.
