I prefer the Frye words to Dolch. Fry goes to 1000. I feel that students should know the first 300 by the end of 2nd, 600 by the end of 3rd and 100 by the end of 4th. I found the Frye lists in either the Teachers' Book of Lists of Rasinski's The Fluent Reader. Hope this helps! Let us be gr

Judy- I was a literacy/math coach for 7 years before I retired (2 years ago). The research I am siting was from a book about the brain. I believe Robert Marzano also has some research about this as he worked with a brain researcher when he put his academic vocabulary method of teaching together.
